Survival Kit Challenge - are you prepared for retirement?Posted to Financial Capability on 16-10-2015
Most of us have a pretty good idea about the sort of things that should go in an emergency survival kit. But how many have thought about their retirement survival plan?
The Commission for Financial Capability has launched a competition to help you do just that, so you can be better prepared for entering the three stages of retirement.
We want you to come up with ten ideas and activities that you consider are essential to have in a preparedness kit. It should include not only financial aspects, but health, wellbeing and fun. Send them to email@example.com.
We’ll share the best suggestions, so everyone can plan better for their future.
The Commission will give the winner an iPad, and they will also get a full financial plan, worth up to $3,000, thanks to the support of the Institute of Financial Advisers. Two runners-up will receive financial health checks, also thanks to the IFA, and valued at up to $750.
The competition is being run in conjunction with Fairfax Media, who will run a series of stories over the next six weeks investigating the different topics people should be thinking about.
These will include getting your KiwiSaver and savings plan in order, getting on top of your debt, making sure you have the insurance you need and that your paperwork, including a will, is in place.
